Hawkshead

Hawkshead, Cumbria

client: private

status: to be constructed

photography: photos upon construction

A design for a client outside of Hawkshead to remove the existing linear pathway and large expanse of lawn for a more naturalistic approach using native planting which will thrive in the wet conditions. A proposed curved, stepped pathway which leads down to the bottom of the garden with a terraced space using log stacks around the perimeter to provide a habitat for wildlife to shelter and offer a source of food. A ‘Pod’ inspired by the woven structure built at home using off-cuts of felled trees will provide a place for kids to enjoy, utilising the minimal flat areas in the garden.

The existing Laurel hedge is to be removed in favour of a native mix with two hedgerow trees planted to provide height in the site. Three additional trees will also be planted within the garden including; Amelanchier, Hamamelis and Salix.
